What is CSS Gradient Generator?

A gradient generator composes the background-image values that CSS gradients accept: multiple color stops, positions and angles for linear gradients, shape and center for radial ones. Dragging stops beats writing rgb() offsets by trial and error.

Beyond picking colors, the tool handles the details that make gradients look professional: smooth hue interpolation between stops, hard stops for stripes, and correct syntax for multiple layered backgrounds. Output is a copy-paste-ready CSS declaration that works in every modern browser.

How to use it

  1. 1Choose linear or radial and set the angle or center.
  2. 2Add color stops and drag them to adjust the blend.
  3. 3Preview updates live on the sample surface.
  4. 4Copy the generated CSS into your stylesheet.

Common use cases

  • Creating hero-section backgrounds and buttons without opening a design tool.
  • Generating subtle two-tone surfaces for cards and panels.
  • Prototyping data-viz color ramps with exact stop positions.

Frequently asked questions

▸Why does my gradient look banded?

Banding appears when two similar colors stretch across a large area in 8-bit color. Add a subtle third stop, shorten the span, or overlay light noise to mask it.

▸Do I need vendor prefixes?

No. Unprefixed linear-gradient and radial-gradient have been standard for a decade; any tool still emitting -webkit- prefixes is outdated.
