What is CSS Minifier?
A CSS minifier compresses stylesheets into the smallest equivalent text: comments stripped, whitespace collapsed, trailing semicolons dropped and colors shortened where possible. The cascade, specificity and computed styles are untouched — the rules simply take fewer bytes.
CSS is render-blocking: the browser will not paint until the stylesheet downloads and parses, so a smaller file directly improves first-paint time on every page that uses it. Minification runs locally in your browser, so private brand styles stay on your machine.
How to use it
- 1Paste your CSS into the input area.
- 2Click minify to get the compact output and the size comparison.
- 3Copy the minified CSS into your build output or embed it inline.
- 4Keep the original stylesheet as your editable source.
Common use cases
- Optimizing a small site's single stylesheet before going live.
- Inlining a compact critical-CSS snippet into an HTML template.
- Shrinking a print or email stylesheet that gets embedded in messages.
Frequently asked questions
▸Does minification change how styles render?
No. Only insignificant characters are removed; selectors, values and order are preserved byte-for-byte in meaning.
▸Should I minify CSS that is already served with gzip?
Yes, and the two stack: gzip compresses repetition well, but minification removes bytes gzip cannot, so combining both yields the smallest transfer.
